Painting 4 U

Saturday morning, by the window in my Brooklyn studio (home)

Sitting down to finally be moving at a pace that’s slow enough to allow words to fall from my fingers and not continue to evaporate in my head, making space for more thoughts to rain in and flood my day. I want to write, I know I do. It’s been something that has been aching at me for awhile now, the other mediums just take the front seats most of the time. But today I made it, so here’s an update with some words from me and photos taken by a dear friend.

In the past 10 years of re-wilding myself back to the childhood love of moving pencil and paint on paper, the majority of the work i’ve made has been for me. Things that I want on my own walls at home, experiments hanging in the lab to reflect on and learn from. However during this time, I have also worked a handful of commissions for close friends, great encouragers who believe in my approach to bring to life the ideas they can imagine.  It’s a great challenge for me and an excellent opportunity to paint with a purpose.

It’s also nice to get paid : )

These photos highlight the finishing period of a piece that was done for a fellow Texan. The request was a Wall Street scene to depict the swirls of uncertainty and the battle of the two forces in the market. The bull and the bear wrestle on, trading rounds of victory and defeat and the balance of the world vibrates between them. Up and down and round and round we go.

As the next 10 years of my work unfolds, I know for certain that commissions will be part of the journey, they are integral to expanding my practice. Accepting that, may this post be an open door to you or to anyone you may know who is keeping that empty wall or perfect space for the right picture, if you can see it, we can make it. Let me hear from you.

That’s it from me, for today. Short and sweet. I enjoy sharing these moments with you and as always, thank you for taking the time to be here. May the summer treat you well, my friends.

Peace Love & Pizza,

RNR

PS: A big shout out to Bryan Anton for his time and his eyes to capture the moment. Bryan made many visits throughout the process of this piece and i’m forever grateful for his insights and his friendship. Do yourself a favor and explore his work, what a unique approach he holds behind the lens.

Thanks Big B!
